O God, Show Mercy Unto Us
In your just-posted work "O God, Show Mercy Unto Us", you have not specified a valid score. The "C:UsersorangOneDriveDocumentsMuseScore3Scores" seems to be completely in error, and there is no such file with a name even close to this that has been uploaded. Could you please upload a correct PDF score and correct the posting? Thanks!! -- Charlestalk Giffen♫ 20:16, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
- Chuck,
- I see that the pdf is there in the right place. On my composer page, one can still find this: « Other works not listed above (See Template:CheckMissing for possible reasons and solutions) ». That can be deleted.
- Thanks,
- Chuck HerroldCerulean45 (talk) 02:10, 23 September 2023 (UTC)
- PS. ChoralWiki is an enormously valuable resource, but the instructions for adding scores are not at all clear to anyone, like me, who is not familiar with editing a Wiki page. I always make one mistake or another when attempting this.
Unable to link files to composer page

Unfortunately, in adding theaw pdf and mxl files, there is no link to my composer page (Charles M. Herrold, Jr.). (The "new version" upload is an error.) This happens whenever I try to add one of my scores to CPDL. Please help.
- Again, uploading some files is not adding an edition, one has to click on "Add new edition" on the regarding WORK page.
- If the regarding work page doesn't yet exist, click first on "Add new work" on the regarding COMPOSER page. Claude T (talk) 20:31, 8 February 2025 (UTC)
So Why Ashes text
- I notice that the lyrics to your work, So Why Ashes are based in part on a poem written by a living author, with two recent books. I don't have access to either book, but I wonder, is the source for this poem copyrighted? If so, do you have permission to use it? — Barry Johnston (talk) 19:50, 13 February 2025 (UTC)
Hello, Barry. I did get permission to use the text. It is stated on the first page of music, using the wording given to me by the publisher. Incidentally, the stuff I've uploaded recently is linked correctly to my composer page, but this also appears:
- Other works not listed above (See Template:CheckMissing for possible reasons and solutions)
That list should be deleted. – Charles M. Herrold, Jr. (talk) 17:05, 14 February 2025
- Thanks very much for responding! Now I understand. Please forgive me; I should have checked the pdf first.
- The list you mentioned will automatically disappear once the cache empties – see Template:CheckMissing for several ways you can clear the cache more quickly.
- These posts here should appear on your talk page, and I will move them there after you have had a chance to see my reply. I was confused because you currently have two talk pages (this one and that one); they should have been consolidated. I will make that change later as well.
- Also, in future you need to add four tildes (~~~~) to the end of your posts, so you are properly identified and the date and time appear on the post. — Barry Johnston (talk) 18:25, 14 February 2025 (UTC)
Barry, We can keep this one, I guess. If you see this, I don't know why my two latest submissions show the mscz or mxl file in red rather than having the appropriate icon (CPDL #83847 and CPDL #83844). I continue to have trouble uploading scores correctly, but at least I have no more to upload in the near future. – Chuck Herrold Cerulean45 (talk) 20:48, 15 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Chuck, I don't see any file called "Where_Charity_and_Love_Dwell.mscz" on CPDL (which is why it appears in red) – perhaps it was uploaded using a different filename? Similarly, I don't see a file called "The_Shepherds_Had_an_Angel.mxl" on CPDL - perhaps it was uploaded using a different filename?
- When you start on a new work, scores need to be uploaded using the AddWork form, which appears if you start by clicking on the "Add new work" tab on the appropriate composer page. This form makes it much easier, which is why I have used it for over 1,900 submissions I have made so far. There are instructions on how to use the form on this page. If you need further help, I am usually available. (By the way, notice that Christina Rossetti already had a page, just search on "Christina R" in the search field on any page to see it.) Good luck! — Barry Johnston (talk) 03:51, 17 February 2025 (UTC)
CPDL #83847
The pdf for this does not open. The MuseScore file also does not open. I've have tried to submit modified versions, unsuccessfully.
CPDL #83847, still problems
Thanks to Claude for fixing the pdf of this file (though he didn't say how). It displays correctly. The MuseScore and compressed files are still incorrect. Download of the mxl file reads Untitled score and is missing some other data. Download of the mscz file is just garbage. I've tried to correct it but have run out of ideas (and patience). Fortunately for the moderators who have helped me I have nothing new to add to CPDL for the foreseeable future.
- The PDF link leaded to a ...copy3.PDF which was wrong. On any CPDL page, click on the "View history" tab upper right, to see what happened. The MXL file has indeed no title. Complete it and reupload it. The MuseScore file is indeed correct. To check, click on the file-history page icon, just right from the file icon.
