modernized

English.png English translation

Now is the time to be joyful,
before you allow a languid heart
to love the tormenting sorrow
that fondness for the ladies often bestows
on true lovers; a cruel thing.
Take counsel, be faithful,
now is the time to follow no longer.

No longer follow what you desire
as it escapes you and makes you a martyr.
Now is the time to follow the love that gives comfort,
to live joyfully, doing no wrong.
Take courage, get wasted,
drinking all the more of this excellent claret.
