Biography
Wilberfoss George Owst was born in London, England. He was educated at King’s College, London, and studied with prominent teachers in Stuttgart, Germany. He immigrated to the U.S., settling in Baltimore, Maryland. He was organist at St. Michael and All Angels Protestant Episcopal Church and St. John’s, Waverly, in Baltimore. He taught theory and composition at the College of Music in Washington, D. C., and the Maryland College of Music. He was also music critic for the Baltimore Herald and the Baltimore Sun. He composed works for violin and piano, vocal songs, a cantata, a melodrama, a Communion Service, anthems, choruses, quartets for male voices, and part-songs.
