My home is in the mountains,
But my heart is in the dale,
As summer gushing fountains
From the hillside seek the vale;
The chamois leaps
O’er the icy steeps,
And eaglets sunward soar;
But dawn of day
In the morning gray,
I seek their haunts no more.

My home is in the mountains,
But my heart is in the dale;
Like summer gushing fountains,
From the hill I seek the vale.

My love is in her bower,
In the shadow of that glen,
Where bright the Alpine flower
From the cliffside mocketh men;
At morning’s light,
To their giddy height,
With eager steps I spring;
And dewy bloom
In its first perfume
To the maiden’s bower I bring.

Time flieth like these fountains,
But true love shall never fail,
My home upon the mountain
With the maiden of the vale;
And ev’ry morn Of the sunlight born,
We’ll welcome with a song,
And waning night In the soft moonlight
With merry dance prolong.
