One sweet May morn in the meadow,
A fairy left her cowslip shell;
She called brown Thrush from the shadow,
And the Lark from the greenwood dell.
“Tell the Rose,” said she, “and the golden Bee,
And the Dewdrop shining on the rowan tree;
Bid the Maybell bright with her elfen sprite,
Where the sunbeams dance in merry light;
Go say, brown Thrush from the shadow,
O! sing swift Lark of greenwood dell,
That it’s sweet May-morn in the meadow,
And the wedding of the gay Bluebell!”

Then brown Thrush flew thro’ the valley,
Glad sped the Lark o’er wood and fell
Singing, “Comrades sweet, do not dally,
Come and list to the May-morn’s spell.”
Budding Rose, brave Bee on the flow’ry lea,
Pearly Dewdrop shining on the rowan tree;
Silver Maybell bright with your elfin sprite,
Where the sunbeams dance in merry light;
Little Brooklet too, in the shadow,
Where zephyrs woo, and wood-nymphs dwell;
O! it’s sweet May-morn in the meadow,
And the wedding of the blithe Bluebell!
