English text
Woodlands ring with mirthful voices—
Happy children playing;
Murmuring low, the brook rejoices
As though ferns ’tis straying;
Bees and butterflies are winging,
Busy, never tiring;
Songbirds fill the air with singing,
Joy their song inspiring.
Every chill wind has departed,
Perfumed zephyrs meet thee;
Welcome, Summer, gentle hearted,
Joyously we greet thee.
Placid lake and mountain streamlets
Gleam and smile together;
Plains and hills be-sprint with flowerets
Love this sunny weather.
Hedges clad with May and roses,
Fence the golden meadow,
And the violet sweet reposes,
’Neath their grateful shadow.
In the dell where blossoms scented
Tempt soft dimpled fingers,
Kine lie drowsy and contented
Where the cool shade lingers.
Azure skies above outspreading,
Drop no tears of sadness,
Children’s feet are lightly treading
To their strains of gladness.
